Today has been a weird day. The weather is cold and the sun is no where to be found. I had to literally fight to get a parking space on campus today, which was on the opposite side of campus, and then had to find a bus to jump on, so I was like 30 minutes late to class. And that's not good in grad school! Luckily all we did today was go over minerals.. Which are macro and which are micro, and some of their functions. Then, after I FINALLY got back to my car, which was a workout for sure, I went to the lovely Publix and got some groceries.
I bought a new fish oil supplement today. Here's my position on fish oil: besides a multivitamin, it is the only supplement worth taking. It's important to get enough omega 3's and omega 6's in your diet, for various reasons, check this article from the mayo clinic to learn more info: Omega 3's . There are a lot of foods supplemented with omega 3's these days, but the problem is, they are providing only one type of omega 3 most of the time- I believe it is EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). The other type, DHA, (docosahexanoic acid), is often left out, and DHA is good for things like reducing inflammation, etc, so it is important to get both kinds. Fish oil supplements provide both. Of course, you could also eat a meal with salmon or tuna at least once a week, but remember not all fish have omega 3's. So anyway, I bought the new supplement, and I am going to take 2 to 4 tablets a day. It only cost about $6 on sale, but sometimes they may be cheaper or more expensive, depending on the brand.
This afternoon, I'm studying at one of my favorite coffee shops, Red Eye. They are a non-profit coffee shop that donates their profits to mission work around the world. Here's my drink- a raspberry mocha, non-fat of course. It has too much sugar in it, but it's really good, and I really needed some caffeine to get me through this winter day.
I made a healthy quesadilla earlier- made with zucchini, squash, whole grain rice, and cheese. that was good and filled me up, and I think for dinner I'll have a bowl of soup with toast.
Time to study more- by the way- my topic for research on how tea reduces iron absorption got approved today by my major professor, so once again more info on that to come.
