Two days of San Antonio!

For my one-week break between the end of the semester and the start of my internship, my mom and I decided to go to San Antonio, Texas, and with cool early May temperatures and Cinco De Mayo approaching, this Hispanic-inspired town was the place to be.
Day 1
Breakfast: stayed at a Best Western & had their breakfast- low-fat yogurt, coffee, a side of eggs, a biscuit and melon wedges
We hardly had to do any driving, because we were within walking distance to the Riverwalk! We walked all along the riverwalk, which was beautiful, and took lots of pictures.
We found this nice restaurant along the way called Ibiza, where I got a veggie pita and my mom got a traditional Hispanic-style plate of food. I was glad she ordered what she did, because I got to try a burrito cooked in chocolate sauce! This is a common dish in Mexico apparently, but I had never tried it so that was interesting.

Of course we had to go to the Alamo and take pictures of that as well!
The we walked to El Marcado (a Mexican market) and got some souvenirs there.
After all of that walking, we needed a nap! So went headed back to the hotel and took a short nap before heading back to the riverwalk.
We then went in search of margaritas, because that was the most popular drink of this town, and it was the week of Cinco de Mayo, after all. We also split a plate of Tira Misu, which of course wasn’t healthy but it sure was good! ( I made sure to go work out after that).
The rest of our evening we spent relaxing in the hotel- it had been a long day!

Day 2
Breakfast was very similar to day 1, and then we headed to the San Antonio Zoo, where we spent all morning. It was so fun, and we got to see lots of animals that I usually never see, or haven’t ever seen before.
Then we headed back the riverwalk area, and went to the Rivercenter Mall. I bought a couple of souvenirs, and we watched an Imax movie of the Alamo- of what happened there. I actually really enjoyed this, because honestly I wasn’t really sure of what happened there, and it was pretty epic. So since we had visited the Alamo, it was good to actually know what it was all about.
Then we took a riverboat tour, which was very relaxing and enjoyable- it was a 35 minute guided tour in which the tour guide told us all about the surrounding areas. This was probably my favorite part of the whole trip, because it was so nice to relax on the boat and still see everything.
Before heading back to the hotel, we decided to get an appetizer somewhere. We were going to go to Rainforest CafĂ©, but were tempted to stop at a cheaper restaurant. At all of the restaurants along the Riverwalk, there is someone who stands out and advertises to everyone their special deals, and it’s actually quite annoying, but it ended up working because we ended up going to one of them because of it! Who could turn down the deal of a large appetizer plate with bread & olive oil, fried zucchini, mushroom and cheese sticks, along with 2 margaritas, all for just $10? Not us apparently! It was great, but then we had to go work out after that also, because we just aren’t used to eating that much food- especially fried food.

Overall, I loved this trip and saw what I want to see of San Antonio- the Riverwalk, the Alamo, took a riverboat ride, and got margaritas. Mission accomplished.

I think that the thing I learned most from this trip is how different life is just a few hours away of where I’m from in Florida. It made me want to move away and experience different culture- I don’t want to experience the same things my whole life. Would I move to the San Antonio area? Maybe one day. If I were to move to Texas, I probably would want to move around this area. However, it’s looking like I’m headed to the Northwest within the next couple of years. Until then though, I’ll enjoy the Florida sun.
